Nairobi, March 25 – The Senate County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAC) is set to adopt the Auditor General’s report on Kisii County’s financial statements for the 2023/2024 fiscal year, despite 52 out of 64 audit queries remaining unresolved.

The report is scheduled for submission to the Senate on Thursday, March 27, 2025.

CPAC convened today to engage with Kisii County Executive officials as part of its oversight role, scrutinizing financial management practices in county governments. Committee chair Sen. Moses Kajwang’ expressed concern over accountability gaps in the county’s expenditures.

The unresolved queries highlight several financial irregularities, including unaccounted-for expenditures, procurement anomalies, and misallocation of public funds.

CPAC’s imminent adoption of the report may prompt Senate interventions, such as recommendations for financial sanctions, further audits, or disciplinary action against responsible officials.

Failure to address these audit findings could lead to serious consequences for Kisii County, including potential withholding of national government disbursements, legal action against officials, and heightened scrutiny from oversight agencies.

The county also risks losing public trust in its governance and financial management practices.

The Senate is expected to deliberate on the findings after CPAC submits the report, paving the way for further accountability measures.
