The National youth service (NYS) is taking on a new purpose under the Kenya Kwanza Administration. Graduates from the program will now receive priority consideration for employment in various Governments sectors including opportunities to join the police and armed forces.

Speaking in Kilifi County earlier today where he witnessed recruitment of young Kenyans seeking to join the NYS, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua urged women to take advantage of the NYS recruitment and join the discipline forces lamenting that teenage pregnancies and early marriages are an impediment to the development of the girl child in Kilifi and called on the local administration to discourage practices such as night discos popularly known as ‘disco matanga”.

The CS however encouraged teenage girls who may have gotten children to still offer themselves when such opportunities are announced.

According to Dr. Mutua, the initiative aims to not only provide employment ,but also instill a sense of discipline , patriotism and service among the nation’s youth.

The CS said the future of Kenya lies in the hands of young people and emphasized the government’s commitment to providing opportunities for youth empowerment and development. A significant turnout of enthusiastic young individuals eager to contribute to their country’s progress turned up for the exercise.

At least 30,000 youth from across Kenya will be recruited to join the National youth service this year.
