Five people perish after Kenyan cargo plane crashes in Somalia

Mogadishu, Somalia – A tragic plane crash occurred on Saturday, March 22, at around 5:43 pm local time, claiming the lives of all five people on board. The DHC-5D Buffalo aircraft, operated by Trident Aviation Ltd., was returning from Dhobley town in the Lower Juba region, after delivering supplies to the African Union forces.

According to a statement from the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) on Sunday, the crash took place approximately 24 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu. The aircraft, registered as 5Y-RBA, had been en route to Aden Abdulle International Airport (HCMM) when it went down.

Victims Identified

The five victims were confirmed to be aboard the plane, and reports suggest that four of them were Kenyan nationals. The identities of the victims have not been officially released at this time.

Mechanical Problems Before Crash

Initial reports suggest that the plane had experienced mechanical issues while still in Dhobley, but it was reportedly repaired before continuing its flight. However, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Rescue and Investigation Efforts

Government agencies and partners are currently on-site conducting search and rescue operations. The Somali Civil Aviation Authority has vowed to carry out a thorough investigation in collaboration with the government to determine the exact cause of the accident.

SCAA has stated that further details will be released as soon as they become available.
