Kisii , Nairobi , Busia and Narok senators ; Richard Onyonka , Edwin Sifuna , Okiya Omtata and Ledama Olekina respectively , have been rated as one of the top 12 performing senators nationwide . 

In a data released at Jamuhuri Kenya Awards , Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna was ranked top with 69.7% , followed closely by Busia Senator Okiya Omtata with 69.5% , Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka Securing the 3rd position with 69.3% and Narok Senator coming fourth position with 69.0% . 

Senator Edwin Sifuna emerged as the best-performing senator. Known for his dynamic oratory and relentless advocacy for Nairobi residents, Sifuna has spearheaded urban development initiatives, prioritizing affordable housing, clean water, and waste management. His ability to balance grassroots engagement with legislative acumen has set a new standard in Senate performance.

Senator Okiya Omtatah, a celebrated legal mind and rights activist, clinched the second spot. His incisive approach to legislation has made him a fearless defender of Kenya’s constitution. His tireless campaigns for transparency and fairness, particularly in government procurement processes, resonate deeply with Kenyans.

Senator Richard Onyonka of Kisii County has been recognized as one of Kenya’s top-performing senators in the Jamhuri Kenya Awards 2024, an honor celebrating leaders who exemplify excellence in public service and transformative leadership. His recognition reflects his exceptional contributions to governance, accountability, and development.

One of Senator Onyonka’s most remarkable achievements this year was his lone stance against the controversial Adani-Kenya deal.

The Adani Group was set to invest $1.85bn in Kenya’s main airport in exchange for a contract to run it for 30 years, as well as a $736m deal with the energy ministry to construct power lines.

The deals with the Adani group were hugely unpopular in the country, and there were concerns of corruption. The airport deal sparked a strike among airport workers in September, as many feared it would lead to job losses.

Beyond his fight against the Adani deal, Senator Onyonka continues to shine through his legislative achievements. He has championed healthcare reforms, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development in Kisii County and beyond. Known for his articulate and strategic contributions in the Senate, he is a trusted voice on issues of justice and equity.
