In a momentous occasion for the community of Mwatate Ward, the President of Kenya, H.E. William Samoei Ruto, visited ACK St. Peters Bura for a church service, providing not only spiritual guidance but also a promise of significant developmental strides for the region. This visit brought together local and national leaders, including Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi, and Taita Taveta County Governor Andrew Mwadime, among others, highlighting the government’s commitment to transformative initiatives.
The President’s visit was marked by the handover of a school bus to Kombolio Secondary School, a gesture symbolizing the government’s dedication to improving educational access for children in remote areas. Governor Andrew Mwadime acknowledged the impact of this donation, saying, “This school bus is not just a means of transport; it is a bridge to better educational opportunities for our children.”
The provision of the school bus particularly resonated with Woman Representative Lydia Haika, who stressed its importance for gender equality in education. “With this bus, our girls will have a safer journey to school, which encourages them to pursue their studies without fear or difficulty,” she stated.
Mwatate MP Peter Shake expressed his gratitude, emphasizing that transportation has been a major barrier to education for many families in the region. “This bus will make a huge difference for our students who have struggled with long and difficult commutes,” he noted.
Beyond education, President Ruto outlined a broader vision for the region’s economic and infrastructural development. A key highlight was his promise to launch an iron ore factory, which is expected to bring numerous job opportunities and stimulate local industry. “The iron ore factory will be a game-changer for Mwatate, providing jobs and boosting our local economy,” President Ruto said.
The President also announced plans for affordable housing projects, which aim to address the region’s housing deficit and improve living conditions. These projects will be part of a broader effort to provide quality housing solutions for all residents.
In his address, President Ruto reiterated the government’s focus on youth empowerment through job creation and skill development. “Our youth are the future of this nation, and we are committed to providing them with the opportunities they need to succeed,” he promised, highlighting plans to integrate the local workforce into upcoming projects.
The presence of influential leaders, including Taveta MP Wakili Bwire, Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, and Voi MP Abdi Chome, underscored the collaborative effort to transform Mwatate into a hub of opportunity and development.
As the community reflects on this significant visit, there is renewed hope and anticipation for the positive changes that these initiatives will bring. The promises made by President Ruto and his team are set to lay the groundwork for a brighter and more prosperous future for Mwatate and its residents.
