The ministry of tourism and wildlife is taking bold measures to transform Kenya’s tourism landscape. Tourism and wildlife cabinet secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua says he is determined to grow tourist arrival numbers from the current 2 million to an ambitious 5 million per year over the next three years, but this will take hard work and sacrifice from all stakeholders.
Dr Mutua spoke at the Nairobi National park where he hosted students from Wellington College in Shanghai China. The students and their teachers are on both a study and familiarization tour of Kenya.
The CS said he is determined to ensure that tourism regains its position as the number foreign exchange earner.
To achieve this, we need a comprehensive strategy that focusses on aggressive marketing, enhanced facilities and the creation of new tourism circuits

The marketing strategy will extend its reach to new markets with a particular focus on attracting high- value tourists. The CS spoke of the need to showcase Kenya’s luxury offerings targeting discerning travellers who seek exclusive experiences in the heart of Africa.
To ensure that tourists experienced the best of Kenya, Dr. Mutua unveiled plans to enhance the quality of facilities and services. He spoke passionately about the importance of preserving and showcasing Kenya’s unique cultural heritage, investing in sustainable eco-friendly accommodation and providing top notch services to visitors.
The CS said he is keen on opening new tourism circuits.
From the pristine beaches of the coastal region to the untamed landscapes of the rift valley, Kenya’s diverse attractions would be strategically highlighted to cater to a broader range of interests

Dr Mutua encouraged Kenyans to explore their own backyard, promoting domestic tourism as a means to not only boost the economy but also foster a sense of national pride and appreciation for their country’s natural wonders.
The visit by the Chinese students is a testament to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife’s efforts to woo Chinese tourists. Dr. Mutua expressed his gratitude for the cultural exchange and hoped that it would pave the way for a stronger tourism partnership between Kenya and China.
