As Kenyans plant trees to mark the National Tree Planting holiday, youth organizations in Bungoma have planted over 3000 trees to boost the Government efforts in increasing the National forest cover.

Speaking at Bungoma DEB Primary School during the ceremony, youth leaders said the youth are key in supporting the Government to achieve the desired green cover, citing that they have taken up the mandate to stir the agenda into future generations.

“Trees are the sources of life on the planet, so we have put our efforts together to actualize the popular climate justice by vesting our time and resources on planting more trees,” said Tracyter Mutala, Executive Director at Bungoma Youth Umbrella Shield.

The umbrella is running a program dubbed Re-planet Africa which intends to sensitize communities to plant trees alongside all development projects.

The youths collaborated with the National government at grassroots, which was commended by Bungoma Township Chief Christine Mabele.

“The youths have indeed given the tree planting exercise the right attention and the Presidential directive of increasing tree cover will come fast through them,” she said.

Also present at the exercise were street children from Bungoma who appreciated the efforts by the Government to plant more trees.

However, local youths have called upon the government to direct resources to local tree nurseries so that they can generate income from the supplies and boost in acceleration of government’s targets.
